Find Peace With God

Billy Graham's Daily Devotion How do we find peace with God? We must stop fighting! We must surrender! We must serve! Of course, these steps will be motivated by faith and mingled with love. Having found peace with God, next we experience the peace of God. This peace of God is not a mere abstraction advocated by preachers and theologians. Thousands of people can witness that they have actually experienced the peace of God and have found it wonderfully adequate for this present day. “For He is our peace.” PRAYER FOR THE DAY Father, I thank You for the peace You have given to me, which does not depend on feelings or circumstances.

VOM North Korea Special Update

North Korea Update and Year-End Donation Opportunity As this e-mail is being written, VOM-sponsored workers are on a boat off the coast of North Korea launching helium-filled scripture balloons over one of the darkest nations on earth. As workers packed the vessel and prepared to leave, they learned that North Korea's iron-fisted dictator, Kim Jong Il, had suddenly died of a heart attack. While the world speculates about the future of North Korea, VOM's field director says, “It's business as usual. We're in ministry, not politics.” Christians in North Korea continue to face brutal persecution. Many are imprisoned in labor “death” camps, where they are subjected to starvation and torture. Sister Yang was tortured for a month after being suspected of being a Christian. A woman sitting near Sister Yang had overheard her praying quietly and reported her to authorities. “They beat me with a shovel,” Sister Yang told VOM. “Eventually my whole body had turned blue...

Where Does Your Hope Lie?

Billy Graham's Daily Devotion 26 Dec 2011 Blessed is the man who trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. –Jeremiah 17:7 The Scriptures predict that a new day is coming. There will be a golden age of prosperity when all perplexing problems—religious, social, or political—will find their complete solution. It will be a marvelous time for this mixed-up world. However, the Bible teaches that man will not bring about this coming golden age. Man alone cannot. The flaw in human nature is too great. Man has no ability to repair this damaged planet. God is our only hope! His plans are already formed, and they are perfectly stated in the Scriptures. PRAYER FOR THE DAY All my hope and plans are laid at Your feet, Lord Jesus Amen

What does 'Merry' Mean?

What does 'Merry' Mean? Billy Graham's Daily Devotion 25 Dec 2011 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God . . . –Luke 2:13 When at this season of the year we wish our friends a “Merry Christmas,” it is essential to realize that true merriment of heart is contingent upon the recognition of the truth that Christ was born in Bethlehem for our salvation. The word “merry” is from an old Anglo-Saxon word which sometimes meant “famous,” “illustrious,” “great,” or “mighty.” Originally, to be merry did not imply to be merely mirthful, but strong and gallant. It was in this sense that gallant soldiers were called “merry men.” Favorable weather was called “merry weather.” Brisk winds were called a “merry gale.” Spenser speaks of London as “merry London.” The word “merry” carries with it the double thought of “might” and “mirth,” and is used both ways in Scripture. One of the early Christmas carols was “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen.”...
