“Por eso, ya no vivan ni se conduzcan como antes, cuando los malos deseos dirigían su manera de vivir. Ustedes deben cambiar completamente su manera de pensar, y ser honestos y santos de verdad, como corresponde a personas que Dios ha vuelto a crear, para ser como él.

Por eso, ya no deben mentirse los unos a los otros. Todos nosotros somos miembros de un mismo cuerpo, así que digan siempre la verdad. Si se enojan, no permitan que eso los haga pecar. El enojo no debe durarles todo el día, ni deben darle al diablo oportunidad de tentarlos. Quien antes fue ladrón, debe dejar de robar, y ahora trabajar bien y con sus propias manos. Así tendrá dinero para ayudar a las personas necesitadas. No digan malas palabras. Al contrario, digan siempre cosas buenas, que ayuden a los demás a crecer espiritualmente, pues eso es muy necesario. No hagan que se ponga triste el Espíritu Santo de Dios, que es como un sello de identidad que Dios puso en ustedes, para reconocerlos cuando llegue el día en que para siempre serán liberados del pecado. Dejen de estar tristes y enojados. No griten ni insulten a los demás. Dejen de hacer el mal. Por el contrario, sean buenos y compasivos los unos con los otros, y perdónense, así como Dios los perdonó a ustedes por medio de Cristo.”

Reflection on Genesis 44:33 Sometimes we get a second chance. When we do, it’s important to seize the opportunity. That’s what Judah did. When his brothers wanted to kill Joseph, Judah didn’t rescue Joseph but instead suggested that they sell him as a slave (see Genesis 37:26–27 ). His second chance came when Benjamin’s life appeared to be in danger. This time Judah put his own life on the line to protect his half brother, Rachel’s other son. Perhaps this commitment was taken into account in the blessings that God inspired Jacob to give his sons; eventually the Messiah came through Judah’s descendants (see Genesis 49:10 ). God often gives us second chances in life. When he does, we need to take advantage of the opportunity and set things right.

The Need for Friendship

July 19, 2012 Read | 2 Timothy 4:9-22 Independence is a prized attribute in our culture, but biblically, it isn't a worthy aspiration. Nowhere in Scripture will you find the erroneous quote, "God helps those who help themselves." The very fact that the Lord formed the church--a community of believers--should tell us that He did not create people for self-sufficiency or isolation. When we place faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit indwells us so we can have a fulfilling relationship with the Lord and satisfying friendships with one another. In God's design, a close, committed biblical friendship between two believers serves to build both toward Christlikeness. Look at any of the saints in Scripture, and you will find evidence of reliance upon a close friend or confidante for support. Paul, in particular, spoke freely and often of his dependence upon dear companions and encouraged others to form intimate partnerships as well (2 Tim. 2:22). It's interest...
