Hijos seguros de sí mismos

Olvidamos fácilmente lo poderosa que puede ser la influencia de los padres en sus hijos. En ciertas ocasiones, el comentario de una madre o un padre puede ser todo lo que se necesite para plantar una semilla de inseguridad en un hijo. Entonces, a menos que se aplique sabiduría con sensibilidad, se les puede hacer un gran daño a los hijos. Pensemos en las maneras como los padres, sin querer, fomentan la inseguridad en sus hijos.

Primero, un ambiente familiar caracterizado por el caos y la inestabilidad, los mantiene desorientados, reservados y nerviosos. Como adultos, pueden sentirse rechazados, y pudieran ser proclives a verse a sí mismos como indignos de recibir aceptación y afecto.

Segundo, los comentarios negativos sobre el rendimiento o el carácter de un hijo pueden herir su corazón y afectar su desarrollo personal.

Las expectativas poco realistas pueden crear el sentimiento del amor condicional. Si un niño cree que sus padres lo amarán solo por su rendimiento en los estudios, los deportes u otra área, crecerá bajo el peso de una carga terrible.

Cuarto, la falta de reforzamiento positivo puede ser paralizante. ¿Imagina lo que sería para usted no recibir nunca ni la más leve palabra de estímulo, a pesar de haber intentado siempre hacer las cosas de la mejor manera posible? Con el tiempo, esta clase de privación puede despojar a la persona de la confianza en sus capacidades.

La tarea de criar hijos no está, sin duda, libre de desafíos. No importa la edad que tengan ellos, decida inculcarles un espíritu de confianza.

Reflection on Genesis 44:33 Sometimes we get a second chance. When we do, it’s important to seize the opportunity. That’s what Judah did. When his brothers wanted to kill Joseph, Judah didn’t rescue Joseph but instead suggested that they sell him as a slave (see Genesis 37:26–27 ). His second chance came when Benjamin’s life appeared to be in danger. This time Judah put his own life on the line to protect his half brother, Rachel’s other son. Perhaps this commitment was taken into account in the blessings that God inspired Jacob to give his sons; eventually the Messiah came through Judah’s descendants (see Genesis 49:10 ). God often gives us second chances in life. When he does, we need to take advantage of the opportunity and set things right.
