Scripture: John 14:13
"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son" NKJV

Before we were a nation --- while still in the throes of who we were to become the first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer --- in 1775. Nearly a century later with the Civil War in full array and two months before the battle of Gettysburg. Abraham Lincoln called for such a day --- in 1863. Another century later about one year before the end of the Korean War. Congress established NDP as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Truman --- in 1952. The year before the Berlin Wall was torn down the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, designating the NDP as the first Thursday in May starting --- in 1988.
Fun Facts from the National Day of Prayer Committee:

1) There have been 137 national calls to prayer, humility, fasting and thanksgiving by the President of the United States

2) There have been 59 Presidential Proclamations for a "National Day of Prayer"

3) Gerald Ford (1976) and George H. Bush (1989-91) are the only U.S. Presidents to sign two National Day of Prayer Proclamations in the same year.

4) Every President since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.

5) 34 of the 44 U.S. Presidents have signed proclamations for National Prayer. Three of the Presidents who did not sign a proclamation died while serving in office. Two Presidents, not included in the count - William H. Taft and Warren G. Harding, signed proclamations for Thanksgiving and Prayer.

6) Records indicate there have been 965 state and federal calls for national prayer since 1775 and counting.

Please join me in prayer today for our nation and make no mistake about it --- we will end this prayer In The Name Of The Lord Jesus Christ.

The Danger in Being a Christian: It began as a Jewish sect; fierce persecution only helped it spread Today's reading: Acts 8 Acts 8:1 On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. In some countries, a person who becomes a Christian forfeits a good education and job. And in a few countries, a person who converts risks his or her life. One church historian estimates that more Christians were martyred in the twentieth century than in all preceding centuries put together. Yet, strangely, more often than not, intense persecution of Christians leads to a spurt of growth in the church. An ancient saying expresses this phenomenon: "The blood of martyrs is the seed of the church." The First Big Advance For a while, the new faith enjoyed popular favor. But very soon it involved grave risk. In the book of Acts, the persecution that produced the first Christian martyr, St...

Recompensas celestiales
