La disciplina del amor

Los padres que aman a sus hijos los disciplinan; y aunque los motivos y los métodos sean correctos, a nadie le gusta el castigo. Sin embargo, con una perspectiva a largo plazo, recordamos que los beneficios de la disciplina sobrepasan con creces el malestar pasajero que produce.
El propósito de un padre al corregir a sus hijos, debe ser criarlos en rectitud. Específicamente, hay un principio clave que todo hijo debería aprender: Ya sea que éste todavía esté viviendo en su hogar, o se haya independizado, toda persona es responsable de su vida delante de Dios, sus acciones y sus actitudes. Teniendo esto presente, se puede ver que, para aplicar la disciplina correctamente, hace falta perseverancia, esfuerzo y sabiduría por parte de los padres. Pero es un acto de amor abnegado e intencional.
Igualmente, Dios disciplina a sus hijos. Aunque esta reorientación parece desagradable en el momento, nos ahorra muchas dificultades más tarde, y nos lleva al gozo y a una vida grata.
Nuestra respuesta determinará si aprendimos la lección necesaria: podemos reaccionar con enojo, o podemos arrepentirnos y preguntarle a Dios qué quiere enseñarnos. Después de buscarle por medio de su Palabra, de la oración y del consejo de otros, debemos obedecer.
La sabiduría humana lleva a la perdición. Pero afortunadamente, tenemos el cuidado, sin duda alguna, de nuestro Padre celestial, quien nos redimió con la sangre de Jesús. Cuando nos dirigimos en la dirección equivocada, Él nos redirige con ternura, para que podamos conocer la plenitud de vivir de acuerdo con su plan.

Reflection on Genesis 44:33 Sometimes we get a second chance. When we do, it’s important to seize the opportunity. That’s what Judah did. When his brothers wanted to kill Joseph, Judah didn’t rescue Joseph but instead suggested that they sell him as a slave (see Genesis 37:26–27 ). His second chance came when Benjamin’s life appeared to be in danger. This time Judah put his own life on the line to protect his half brother, Rachel’s other son. Perhaps this commitment was taken into account in the blessings that God inspired Jacob to give his sons; eventually the Messiah came through Judah’s descendants (see Genesis 49:10 ). God often gives us second chances in life. When he does, we need to take advantage of the opportunity and set things right.
